My mom passed away, leaving me the sole beneficiary of her car. The logbook could not be found after her passing, although the car had been paid off 5 years ago. I requested a replacement logbook from the licensing dept, but they tell me they need a letter from the bank it was financed with to state the vehicle was settled. The bank was MLS, but they're refused to give me the account number. MLS bank does not exist anymore, and after much investigation I find that ABSA archives dept would have the document.i called them and requested the procedure to get the logbook from them, they asked for a request email, Id's, executorship letter, death cert etc. I sent to them. They then respond that I must go to the licencing dept & request a document showing which bank is the title holder of the vehicle, and I must furthermore pay them R342.00 just for them to look for the document! The process of getting a search document from the licencing dept involved posting a form with R35 to PMB, & collecting after 5 working days. I have taken thus far 3 dys off work to go to the lic dep, they close at 2:30pm and closed on Saturdays. If ABSA has my logbook, why must I pay for it & do the run around?
