My elderly, bedridden mother had the misfortune of being coerced into applying for an African Bank credit card by one of African Bank (Atlantis Branch's) consultants about 4 years ago.

She had the card for approximately 6 months when it THANKFULLY go lost.(with credit on it).

She immediately notified the bank to cancel the card and to reissue another. After another six months, and numerous calls and faxes to Head office as well as personal visits to the local branch and still not having received her card, she informed the bank to cancel the card, since they were still deducting monthly administration charges from her savings account in excess of R 120, 00 monthly as well as accruing interest on the negative balance of the card.

Since then this issue has become a nightmare,

The bank continued to deduct monies from my mothers account in excess of R 5000 for a card she did not have! Despite her pleas to Stanmdard Bank, where she had her savings account, to cancel these debits, they refused and she was forced to close that account.

Till today they still pester her via cell calls and sms's to pay them money, while they are the people who thousands of rands from her!
