Closing an account

How is it that you can open an account online and cant close account online, that makes no sense at all! The reason I have Internet banking is because it's almost impossible (and very frustrating, to say the least!) for me to get to the bank during their office hours. I opened a savings account online with no problems. Now I want to close it, but i cant! In the meantime, they are charging me a monthly fee to keep it open. Have also asked for assistance from their contact us online tab and received an email that they were swamped and would get back to me as soon as possible - that was 5 days ago now.
