Paying for an account in order to close it

Unbelievable...!!! I opened an savings account with FNB whereupon they sent me an email advising me I opened a personal cheque account I phoned in to inquire and was told the email was incorrect the agent then asked me why a savings account as a Call account would be much better option as my aim is to save money when i told him to close the savings and open the call account he advised i first have to deposit money into the savings account to activate it and then i have to go into a branch and close the account as that is the only way they can close it. Why ever do i need to pay for an account that i never used nor suits my needs what happened to How can we help??
