I had a credit card with African Bank (obtained in 2010) which I dedided to cancel a few days ago. While I had the card I updated my banking details as I had migrated from a savings to a cheque account. The relevant documents (ID and bank statement) were sent through to verify the new bank details.
When cancelling the credit card, a balance was due to me from the card. I then requested that the funds be transfered into my cheque account. Upon this request I was advised that I had to verify the exisitance of the bank account.
What baffels me is that this was done before, and it is evident that the bank only bothered to update the details for debit order purposes. When I enquired why I was expected to re-verify my details I was informed that the information I sent years back (at some point in 2011) was not on record anymore. So my bank details were good enough for debit orders processing, but now that I want to close the account and claim what is rightfuly mine I'm expected to prove that I really exist and that the account is really mine!!!
This is totally unacceptable because now I as a consumer am being punished because the bank was unable to process their admin.
