I am insured for all risk up to R20 000 and had several items from my vehicle whilst moving house, including a laptop, camera, brand-name takkies and work clothing. My car was packed to the brim with items but only certain items were taken. When I called the call centre to place my statement the woman on the line mislead me. When I was asked where the items were situated in the vehicle I stated that I was "not sure" but she guided me to answer positively that the items were in the boot (when I had explained that I was not sure). This answer led to my claim not being covered as "there was no proof of violent entry into the boot of the car " (but the boot is accessible from the passenger seats in any case so it is no different where the items were stored...). I can only assume that access must have been gained by remote control. This is just a warning to all their clients, as I have exhausted the complaints department at Auto & General, and have had no luck with the Ombudsman for short-term insurance either, and am now left without money to replace a laptop to work on or work clothes to work in, literally.
