I have never felt like more of a criminal than when I walked into the FNB in Hermanus to open a business account with Mr. Dawie Louw.

He requested my lease agreement from our land lord which was a maximum of 3 months old. My question to you, Sir, is who renews their lease agreement every 3months? I had an electricity bill dated for December 2013, along with a letter from my partner stating I am living with him at this address. This did not suffice. He wanted my relationship status with said partner, our marriage certificate as well as him to come into the bank so he could sign some documents. Another question, Sir, what documents would he need to sign in order for ME to open an account for MY business in MY legal name?

Mr Dawie Louw proceeded to explain to myself and my mother-in-law (who accompanied me) that there was an incident of a 'young girl', such as myself, who opened a business account to 'dodge the tax man'. Sir, were you trying to imply that I had the intention of doing the same?

He then got up out of his chair and said, very arrogantly, that we should enjoy our holiday, go back to Pretoria and open a bank account then.

Appalling.
