Interest Charged when they are at fault

I received a sms yesterday telling me that my credit card payment was overdue. I phoned them and informed them that I had a debit order and that I had been dealing with them for 7 years and never had a problem. The person then said that because the 26th was a holiday they could not submit the debit order. Today I receive a message that interest is going to be charged on my account because they did not submit the order. First off I would like to know how every other company in south Africa managed to get my debit order through and not them and why I should pay interest when it is their fault. I have a debit order as I cannot get to town to pay things.
What a disappointment from a company that professes to be perfect.
