I settled a debt in October of 2012 that was still reflecting on my credit report in December of 2013 when I did a credit check myself.
I contacted the credit bureau and was informed to speak to Standard Bank. I did this and requested that my credit report be updated, they assured me that they would do it but it would take 2 - 3 weeks. I then contacted them again, via email, and requested a letter stating that I was paid up from October. This happened on the 27th of December.
After a bout of emails I sent again, as I was getting no responses from Standard Bank, I finally got the letter stating that I am paid up. I then contacted them again to confirm it has been updated with the credit bureau. This email got no response.
I am applying for a bond on a property now and was informed that this debt is still reflecting on my credit score. I phoned Standard Bank this morning to establish why this had happened and was informed that they were not instructed to update the ITC, which they were. I have the email chain that proves all of this.
I am now going to be declined for the bond on a house because of their ineptitude and fear I may be liable for for some legal fees.
