First National Bank
Is eBucks really worth the inconvenience of SPAM??

Receiving many promotional sms's daily, I decided to phone the number provided in one of these sms's to find out where they got my number. They got it from FNB.

I phoned FNB and spoke to a very helpful & understanding supervisor, Taryn. She informed me that in order for me receive eBucks, it is compulsory to make my mobile number available for promotional purposes. Isn't that ridiculous? Not having the option of "Can we use your number? " it is instead "Sorry, mam, we WILL use your number or you can't get eBucks". So what happens then when I 'sms STOP to opt out' if that is not truly an option? Is that not then false advertising/promoting? Because I respond to EVERY sms as specified in the sms to opt out, and it NEVER works - only now I understand that the reason therefor is that it is not truly an option but rather false perceptions of being given the option to receive these promotional sms's or not.

I am HIGHLY DISGUSTED and VERY UPSET. Is the inconvenience of receiving unwanted sms's really worth the eBucks? Should I not rather close my FNB accounts in order to have a CHOICE (probably at bleep bank) whether I want to make my number available for promotional purposes?
