Debit without knowledge!!

I received an "sms" (not even a call) to say that my account will be debited on the 13th of December 2013 when my agreed date is the 25th of each month. I then called the call center immediately to please not change my date as i get paid the 24th December 2013. THEY THEN DEBITED MY LAST MONIES OUT MY ACCOUNT ON THE 13th December. I called the call center immediately to asked them why they had debited my account the operator then said she could not help me because her computer could not pick up the debit from my account, i then rode to the nearest store and they could pick it up. The guy there then logged a query. He then called me to say i would get a refund on the 17th December. ALL WAS WELL until i called call center this morning and and they said they could not refund me because i haven't given any bank statements??? WHAT IF I DIDN'T CALL IN? would they have just kept my money? I have spent the entire morning on the phone to African bank without a sense of comfort that this will be dealt with appropriately
