Funds transfered without my permission

I moved to standard bank a few years ago. i was assisted in opening a cheque account, after a few months i went back to change the account to a cheaper account. a savings account was opened, i requested the cheque account to be closed. the consultant said i should wait for my salary to be paid to my new account first before closing the account. last week friday my account was debited with a few thousand rand for outstanding fees on my cheque account without me being notified. i went to the branch to enquire and was referred to the manager. i went to him several times before complaining about the account that was still open and that the are holding me liable for monthly service fees which was returned unpaid. the rest of the staff remember me being their to complain but not the manager, is their no system in place where such important consultations are recorded. i went to the manager last week friday he requested that i should come back the monday. on monday i was told to come back in two days time, i did so only to be told he can not do anything. is this the type of service you receive from an institution where your money is suppose to be save. please assist!
