In October of this year, a representative of Devon Simmons, a broker working under Liberty Life, Centurion, phoned me to arrange a meeting and when I asked where my information was solicited from, she hang up on me. I then lodged a complaint on Hello Peter, upon which Devon Simmons himself phoned me to let me know that I have no right to complain about or refuse a call from a 'cold caller' (his term, not mine). Further to this, he informed me that I have no right to ask where my information was sourced from. I then followed up with Liberty themselves where Marieta van der Linde assisted me. I was informed that the matter had been dealt with internally. However, when I inquired after proof, I was conveniently ignored. I am still waiting for a reply. My concern is that, even though Liberty responded with a call and an e-mail, there is no honest, open and genuine concern to appease this. Luckily the POPI Act is now in progress, so matters like this one may have legal backing soon.
