I am a 69 year old lady. I went to ABSA Hyde Park to do banking & find out why I was paying bank charges without my knowledge.
When I queried why I was charged R30 for 2 transactions I was told it was the kind of account I had. The teller referred me to a cubicle where I was told I could do little about the charges. I mentioned I have investment products of a substantial value with ABSA.
I asked for a statement as I have never got one via post, that too is an extra charge.
Next day I went to ABSA-Cresta. I was assisted with compassion & was advised on a bank charge free account due to my age & investments. I got a free statement and was upset to see all the bank charges over the last while. They explained that the bank charges had taken effect due to my account balance being low.
I am disappointed:
-With ABSA for not advising me on better options to suit me.
-That Hyde Park did not explain better options to me & insisted I pay the bank charges. After visiting Cresta and meeting with a single consultant it was clear there were more options. (thumbs up for Cresta).
The bank charges I have been paying unknowingly is an expense and a lot of money for me to loose at my age.
