My parents who are pensioners, and have been insured with Standard Bank Insurance for the past 40 odd years have a water pipe leak, after calling the claims department they send a plumber out to do the repairs, so far great service. Next a builder is asked to assess the damaged tiles, a result from the pipe repairs. About 2/3 square metres need to be replaced but the problem is the tiles can't be matched. Under normal circumstances you would need to retile the bathroom as it would look odd to see miss matched tiles in your bathroom?
Now for the small print, Standard Bank Insurance have actually reserved the right to just supply a miss matched tile on the hope that you find this option unacceptable and end up footing the bill to replace the tiles yourself! Clever move for the unscrupulous Insurance company, over your 40 odd year old customer to save yourselves a couple of bucks!
It is hard to believe that companies like this actually still get away with this type of practice and stay in business, it is extremely disappointing and without a doubt we will be looking for a real insurance provider, after all thats why you take out insurance in the first place isn't it?
