The bank that wins an international award for innovation should maybe also invest a bit into their infrastructure. One would expect a company of their size (and profits) to have fully redundant systems, available 24/7/365, no exceptions!!
Needless to say this apparently isn't the case, since their credit card platform was down again (happened a few months ago too) and I can imagine a few thousand customers felt like fools at the checkout point at various retailers when the cashier tells you "your card is declined Sir"! Meanwhile you have a RMB titanium black card in your hand that has plenty of available funds! These days no retailer has an alternative way of processing your transaction. Gone are the zipzap machines. Even after a phone call by the retailer to FNB card division, no solution. "We can't help you sir! We can't even tell you when the problem would be fixed".
So you either camp on the retailer's floor, or what? You pack all the goods back on their shelves? It's not as though you can go draw cash - that platform is down too, the person on the line says.
How innovative is that!!?
