Went to Standard Bank in Montana (Kolonade) to deposit money for goods purchased. The ATM rejected the money and asked if I would like to deposit the remaining amount or start over. I selected to start over. The money jammed and I lost a R20. Not a train smash but it would take 6 days to lodge and sort out an electronic query. With the goods still in my vehicle and no time to stand in the queue, I proceeded to place the money in the envelope at the ATM. The next day I received a SMS stating that there was an error from my side and they deducted the money from my account. I phoned the call centre and R60 airtime later they could still not do anything about the problem and told me that I had to go to the branch. At the branch they told me that they have no control over the process and had to lodge another electronic query. Once again it will take 6 days to sort it out. Two days later I stand at the hardware store and swipe my card. My SMS comes through that the transaction was successful but the machine declines the transaction due to a comms error. The transaction does not show on the merchant's bank but Standard Bank has still not reversed the transaction. Losses R2910 fuel.
