I have just returned from Turkey. Prior to my trip, I was worried that my Capitec (Mastercard) Debit Card would not work abroad. I was also worried that I would be charged heavily for transactions done internationally, despite Capitec being so transparent about their bank charges.
I was happy to see that my card worked as well internationally as it does locally. And just as is the case in South Africa, there are no charges for swipe transactions, thus, no service fees were charged even though I swiped in Turkey. Furthermore, I was able to withdraw money from any ATM, for which the service fee is a flat-rate of R35.00 per transaction, with no conversion charges applicable. I had traveled with a colleague who had paid heavily on withdrawals simply due to her bank also charging a 2.75% conversion rate.
I have been a Capitec client since 2009, and I have never had a problem with them. I have never had to complain about being charged wrongly for service fees, etc. I have also been to several branches, and their service is impeccable always.
