Reversed Legitimate Payment

Yesterday I get my Rates account from Ekhurhuleni showing that the account I paid through easypay 14 months ago has been reversed. ( 29 June 2012).
On contacting Ekhurhuleni, they tell me that easypay reversed the payment. I contact Easypay to be told that the auditors said the money was never deducted from my bank account.
I had to send easypay proof that bank account was debited and the money went off!
Now I have a demand from Ekhurhuleni for payment and Easypay are still looking into the matter!
Why did'nt easypay contact me first to see if the money was deducted before instructing Ekhurhuleni to refund them and cause me to have to sort out their incompetence.
I wonder if there was even an audit problem or if easypay is looking for money and just using this to move funds around by taking money back from City councils etc.
Anyway, they have just lost my business. I will pay all my accounts another way from now on. 14 months!
