I have been an ABSA client since 1992, that is when they were still United bank! Most of my finances are with them, including my car finance. Recently, I got a rather menacing e-mail from ABSA Insurance and Financial Advisers. The e-mail theatened to debit my account with an amount of R934.88, which amount would be for the insurance of my car. According to the e-mail, I was supposed to send them proof that my car is insured, failing which they would then proceed to insure it, without my consent. I responded by e-mail, which e-mail was never acknowledged let alone responded to. Today I got an sms that says that they will proceed with their insurance and debit my account with the amount above. Who I asked, authorised them to do this? I am not aware of any clause in my contract that gives them authority to do this? ABSA thinks that they can just go about and bully people, I am afraid that will not work with everybody.
