Standard Bank
Why the discrimination Standard Bank?

I have been banking with Standard Bank for over fourteen years and I have all in all been loyal. Recently, I went to the Sanridge Branch to increase the limit on my revolving credit facility. Firstly, the interest rate quote was excessive and no explanation was provided as to why the interest rate had been increased from the current rate. The next business day following my request for an increase, i received a call requesting a letter from my employer confirming my employment and confirming that my employer would notify Standard Bank if I left the company. Such a request for me is unreasonable regardless of whether or not one is "on a passport". I am not sure if Standard Bank think I am going to abscond with their money (I have a steady job, I own immovable property in South Africa, I am a permanent resident). If I was asking for R1 000 000 on an unsecured basis, I would understand their concern. At the end of the day, if they do not want me to be their client, they should merely inform me rather than impose unreasonable conditions. I will gladly move my accounts elsewhere.
