My Capitec debit card was swallowed by an atm. I then called their customer services immediately to stop the card while standing in front of the atm, not allowing anyone to use it. Their consultant told me that my card was stopped and gave me a reference number. I asked her repeatedly if she's sure that no transactions will be made, she confirmed. Later that day I received notifications that someone had been making transactions on my account amounting to R6500. I immediately called Capitec and was told that there's a possibility that I may never get my money back. She did not inform me what steps would be taken, her response was"I don't know" to all the questions I asked her. After going to the capitec branch at Eastgate I was told that my money should be deposited in my account within 3 working days. It has been 7 days now and I still do not have my money. My rent is overdue and I'm incurring penalty costs for all my outstanding payments. I have never been this disappointed with a banking institution before. Do I need to report to the ombudsman and open a case before I will be taken seriously.
