Standard Bank
ATM system itself the?

Several weeks after reporting to the Standard Bank that I'd been short-changed by an ATM in Durbanville of R50 (I'd key'd in R500 and received 3 x R100 and 3 x R50 notes, no question about that) I was told in a polite phone call from Johannesburg (their ref no: 34237469 - "Deon") that my complaint had been rejected.By implication I had submitted a false claim, and there was no avenue of appeal. Fact is that only I knew what my slip read and what had come from the machine. There was no mistake. I was short of R50. To summarize events: (a) the ATM's mechanical innards mugged me, (b) the bank (supposedly?) then discovered that the start and end of the particular ATM's day record showed up no cash balance discrepancy whereas (c) only I know that at least one other banking client had walked off from the ATM with R50 more than was shown on his slip. So what do we have here, is it a faulty mechanical reconciliation system or a "Couldn't be bothered! " attitude on the part of the Standard Bank? And how many times a day does this sort of thing happen across the country, do you think?
