I requested ABSA to increase my daily ATM cash withdrawal as well as swiping for purchases limits. The person attending to me stated that they cannot increase it past R5000 per day.
I was in Johannesburg for a day and needed to purchase quite a few items for business purposes, all as important and not available in the town where I stay. At the last store, several items were loaded into the trolley, and when I got to the cashier, she rang up everything. Having not kept exact record of what was purchased where, I was not sure of the remaining limit.
I swiped my card, and it was declined. I tried to transfer funds to a friends account to pay, but the internet let me down.. We voided the sale and selected the most critical items, again the cashier rang up the few items, and I swiped my card. Again declined.By now we've wasted about 1 and half hours trying to do the purchase, being checked out badly by all those in ques behind us and the cashier.
I have never been so embarrassed in my life and this with a "ABSA Platinum Cheque Account." And there definitely was sufficient funds in the account. Today, Tomorrow, Together! No way I'm moving on!
