Cancelling of cheque against bank policy

I entered into a online transaction. Paid using a cossed cheque on a friday and realized the deal is a. I phoned Absa`s call centre to cancell the cheque and they instructed me to go and stop the cheque in their branches on monday morning. Monday I was at the bank to stop the cheque. Explaining the situation the person admitted that the cheque will be returned due to the fact that it was a crossed cash cheque. He tried stopping the cheque on the system, no success. He phoned their checque devision and was informed it is against Absa`s policy to cancell a cheque. He then told me he will monitor the account and give me feedback. Two weeks later I enquired about the incident and was told to phone Capitec as they processed the cheque. Their reply was that they use Absa`s cheque clearing devision. Phoning Absa I was told that a fruadulent case will be registered to resolve the matter. Three weeks later I enquired about the case whereby I was told to make a civil case against the person (who?). Three weeks later after emailing the bank I got a phone call stating that if the cheque is gone they cannot stop it. The person were very hesitant in awnsering my questions about the 7 day clearing period?
