I received a traffic fine in Witbank (Emahlahleni municipality) - staying in Bethal (Govan Mbeki Municipality), I decided to go to Standard Bank in Bethal to pay my fine, as it states on the fine that I could pay my fine there. I am a staff member of ABSA bank, and during my lunch time, decided to find out if I could pay my fine, surprisingly I forgot to remove my name badge. The teller first told me that I had to open a bank account at Standard bank in order for me to deposit money to the traffic department, I told him that he must be joking, why should I open a bank account if I want to pay a fine??? When I asked him this, he noticed my name badge and started yelling at me as I left the counter: "Oh, you are from ABSA bank! What do you want here? Foetsek back to your bank! " I was so stunned, it took me a few hours to actually realize what had just happened. I would like to mention this, as I do feel victimized due to my place of work! What does my workplace have to do with me making a deposit at another bank??? I don't have a bank account with SB, all my accounts are with ABSA, but my father and grandmother has been banking with SB for a lot of years, since they started.
