Unsupported account balance

I received a call from FNBs debt collectors over a year ago that I owe a supposed balance and that I have been handed over. I did not agree with the amount and I therefore requested a breakdown from the attorneys which I never received. The bank statement reflected a debit balance.
In fact when I went to FNB the last time they said I did not owe anything. The consultant said I could close my account. There was a small balance of R64 to pay? Since the tellers were closed, she said I should pay it over the internet and she would close the account. This was around December 2012. To date the account is not closed and now incurring interest.

A few months later I received a letter to say that my account showed inactivity and that it would be automatically closed. It's still open!

I received a call from the attorneys two weeks ago and they stated that I owe over R6000. I relayed the above story and requested a statement. They provided their own statement and have not provided a breakdown of the amount I apparently owe. Also suddenly FNB has now indicated a temporary loan balance on my account but of course no statement is available. I really don't know what to do and how to resolve this.
