I am raising this complaint on behalf of a neighbor who has been sadly let down by the very company that she's been loyally paying for in case of the event that her legal rights be violated.
The lady in question was unfairly dismissed by her employer on 28 February 2013. They had stated that she is being retrenched and requested her to leave immediately without notice. She reported the matter to LegalWise on 1 March 2013.
Legal-Wise refferred the matter to a company called Dikotobe Attorneys to represent her at the CCMA. She was requested to pay R201 to the attorneys. The CCMA date was set for 18 April 2013 at 1pm. The client arrived on time at the CCMA however her attorney did not arrive to represent her at the meeting.
Being a simple woman without an understanding of the labour relations processes she was bull-dosed at the meeting by her former employer's legal representatives and as a result her dismissal was upheld.
LegalWise should be protecting the rights of the least among us and this case breaks my heart as it is a reflection of a reality that thousands of South Africans face and they succumb to unfair labour practices because of their lack of knowledge.
