ME PAY FOR YOUR WRONG DOING???!!!

I had given Sony a call because my ps3 had been taking rather long to start up and function recently, So I had spoken to the agent and he explained to me what the problem was and what i should do to fix it, on the call he explained it was a common fault. After the call ended i attempted to do what the agent told me to do and as a result it has now become worse! So i called back and explained to another agent what had happened and the agent informed me that when you do that sometimes it damages the hard drive and motherboard and she told me that i must bring the ps3 in and i will have to pay to get it fixed! Then i ask her why was I not informed of this before i had done that? She told me well i must pay to get it fixed! Why must i pay to get my ps3 fixed when the agent from SONY had instructed me to take certain actions which led to my ps3 unable to work completely now? It is their fault so the must fix it
