BA Inconsistent Rules Application Creates Issues

We were booked to fly on 13 January 2014 @ 14:00 on BA 6416 to Johannesburg from Cape Town. When we checked in, the lady at the counter had an issue with the case that my dog was in although we had flown down from Johannesburg on Friday, 10 January 2014 @ 15:00 on BA 6425, which allowed us to check in the dog using the SAME case. We understand that the case did not conform to the airline's specification, but the impression was created that the case was correct. The ground staff made the issue ours and at this stage we had no transport to buy another case for the dog. We had no resources to our disposal in Cape Town to deliver the dog to cargo as suggested. The manager on duty did not even have the decency to come and speak directly to us. Due to the delays and uncooperative manner of the ground staff and manager, we missed our flight and had to book a later flight, for which we had to pay an additional R798 per ticket. I feel that BA did not take responsibility for their actions in Johannesburg and that we were now forced to buy another ticket in Cape Town due to their lack of support and inadequate training of the personnel in Johannesburg. This is not the first time we had issues
