I boarded a flight to Dubai on 22 September 2013 at OR Tambo gate A18, which is right at the end of a very long walk from passport control, but luckily immediately next to a food outlet named Europe/ Europa.
The price that this outlet charges for game biltong in 180g packaging is R120. This equates to R666/kg which in my opinion, is excessive.
I believe in the principle of demand and supply. But I also realise that competition for kiosk space in OR Tambo is at a premium because the level of competition is restricted..
In my opinion, the onus therefore rests with ACSA to ensure that its airport customers do not experience daylight pricing levels from airport service tenants. Some oversight or comparative survey by ACSA would go a long way to ensure that airport customers are not ripped off.
