Goods on SAA not to be paid for!

Me, my wife and son took a flight from JHB Int to Durban on the 21st of December on Flight No. SA543. When we arrived at Durban, we noticed one of our bags was tampered with. My wife's carry bag was torn open and my son's PSP (Portable) and three games were out of the bag. The left the cover of the PSP and the covers of the games in the bag. We went to the police station in south broom to open a case, as SAA said we had to do. We did not receive a copy of the statement, as they did not have a photo copy machine. But when we returned from vacation we opened a Passenge Property Claim form, File ref: DURSA60168. SAA said we would be paid out the claim of the goods and damaged bag in 21 days. We were informed yesterday, the 24th of Jan'13 that SAA will only pay us R 275.00! Which is only the weight of the bag at 1.7KG?? This was on their own airline. The items and damaged was worth R 3900.00! To think we pay so much money to fly with SAA instead of other commercial airlines because we think things like this wouldn't happen.
