I had booked tickets to fly to Cape Town and back for me and my wife, from Lanseria.
The tickets were R1456 return (each) with which I was very delighted.
About three weeks before our flight, Kulula phones me to inform me that my outbound flight had been moved to much earlier that afternoon. Being a weekday i would not be able to make the earlier flight.
As compromise, they offered to change my flight to OR Tambo for a flight close to the original departure. This was fine with me; however, they then refused to also move my return flight to OR Tambo free of charge.
What is the point of this then? Its not really a return flight if it goes to a different airport.
My hand was forced however and the penalty that they charged me to change my return flight to OR Tambo ended up costing me R2660. That is almost double what the tickets had cost me to start with.
I understand that one has to pay a penalty when one changes a booked flight. However, I would expect a concession on this cost when the airline forces a shcedule change on the passengers. In addition to this, where in the world have you heard of a schedule change penalty costing almost double the original air fare?
