Shosholoza Meyl promises passengers "A pleasant experience! " Well what a joke that is. I had booked this train journey from overseas as a treat to my 2 sisters for their 69th and 70th birtdays respectively. I had researched all about it before I booked and the photos of the train looked very glamourous on the internet! What a disappointment it was to find that the train was worse than 3rd class! I got sick every time I had to use the toilet because of the stench! The weather was 40 degrees and the air conditioners weren't working! Not only that but the fridges weren't working as well so there was nothing cold to drink. Half way through the journey they ran out of water or anything to drink! The train had to stop between stations for 2 hours in those conditions! We thought we were going to die from dehydration. The manager who collected our tickets said that he had reported those very problems after the previous journey. How they could put that same train in that bad condition on another journey is beyond belief! After all it wasn't as though we got the journey for nothing. We spent good, hard earned money! I will NEVER recommend "The Shosholoza Meyl" train to anybody!!
