Data lost before contract end date

Earlier today, my data contract with MTN was cancelled by them as it came to an end.
Last month I requested that the monthly contract not be renewed after March. I was told that one month's notice is required in order to inact a cancellation request. I called in on 22 February and informed them that I will not be renewing my contract and it should be stopped at the end of March, assuming that the end of March is the 31st.
My billing happens at the end of every month and I receive data on the 8th of every month. Therefore, I had paid for data at the end of February, which I received on 8 March and which was cancelled today; 17 days after I received it. They have therefore cheated me out of 13 days to use that data and a minimum of 6 days, if the data gets terminated at the end of a month.
When calling in today to inquire I was told that I should have been informed that the cancellation date is the 25th of a month and was offered no solution. The value of the stored data at current prices is ZAR600.
This is blatant under their regulations which are not properly communicated and is despicable.
