Vodacom Baffled by 'Smart' iPhone 5 Problem

I renewed my contract with Vodacom SA and it was with great excitement that I took receipt of my new iPhone 5. I took a package that gives me 300 free sms's a month upon their advice as its a very good deal - which I fully agree!
THEN - I tried to use my FREE sms service and no sms's are sending nor is my phone ringing when called! I have since been to the Vodacom (Clearwater Mall) who passed the buck to say its the iPhone. Went to Apple who checked the phone by placing other sim cards in the phone and they could send sms's just fine! So not the phone's fault.
Back at Vodacom the problem was seemingly now the sim card's fault - which I have now replaced 4 times!!
I have spoken to VC's helpine and tech people to try to sort this problem out, but all their 'efforts' have come to nothing - they are baffled - and they excuse themselves by saying I am 1 of several!
So here I am, having a lovely 'smart' phone with a service provider who is seemingly not so 'smart'. I have been 'sold' a product that I cannot use - is this not in contravention of the Consumer Protection Act (will check on this)?
Here's to Vodacom - not being able to solve or care about solving a not so 'smart' problem!
