The hidden terms and conditions that MTN chooses to include is their contract is absolutely atrocious!
I am serving my 26th month of a 24 month contract, and I am due to leave the country in a months' time. I went to an MTN store to downgrade from a top up 200 to a top up 100, but was told I had to wait until May to do so, OR pay in R800 and some change. Unfortunately, I will be very far away in May!
Apparently when one is eligible for a contract renewal at the 20th month of a contract, as advertised by MTN, the succeeding contract begins where the preceding contract left of. After spending half an hour on the phone, speaking to 3 different people, I was told that MTN would try locate the signed contract where I had agreed to that, which needless to say I am still waiting for.
But here is the real punchline - now that my "24 months" has lapsed they charge me an extra R50 on the contract I am still on - even though that I am FORCED to stay with them. I simply do not understand how can they unilaterally charge me more and still refuse to release me from this SUPPOSED unknown contractual obligation!
