Outragous bill due to bad communication from MTN

I have had a black berry since September 2011 and the main reason for this was use of BIS as free internet, for which i have always used to download such things as music shows etc with no problem with bills. My internet usage has relatively been consistant from month to month but this month's bill rose significantly from 1.1k for all my contracts to 2.8k now. This I was informed was due to internet usage of over 1, 7k in the current month. When i asked how come this only started this month, I was informed that its my fault for not monitoring my internet usage and that MTN announced a change in policy via a newspaper article. As I do not buy physical newspapers, I did not see this a i'd expect a telecomms company to communicate via their products to make us aware as direct customers. I feel robbed by MTN for this move which I think is taking us the consumer for a ride. Please assist as i feel robbed and if not helped, I would rather take my money to Vodacom or CellC and reccommend everyone i know the same. Now i'm over my credit limit and requesting various adjustments to this. this is the thanks I get for never defaulting a payment and moving from my former network provider?
