Disapppointment - New phone, someone elses problem

Recently I took a new phone Samsung Galaxy with Sim Card from Vodacom. Been a customer with them for more than 12 years.
First month of phone, i received countless SMS, phone calls regarding outstanding amounts from creditors.
They were looking for the person who had this number before me.
I feel as if i got short changed. Took a contract for a new phone and new number, instead i got a second hand number with all that persons baggage. This is unacceptable. Its been 4 months and still i am receiving SMS and phone calls relating to the previous owner of this number.
If i knew this sort of thing would happen, i would never have taken a contract with Vodacom.
Still disappointed.
