Didn't cancel contract

I phoned cancellations about two months ago because I can no longer afford my expensive contract. I was told that my last debit order will be deducted on the 31st December 2013 and that I should reload R29 vodacom airtime to be able to keep my number on a prepaid basis. When I checked my airtime today my contract airtime had been loaded. I phoned customer care and was told that no notice was put on my account to cancel my contract. I am unable to pay for the account and expect this issue to be settled as soon as possible. I have always been using vodacom, but will now be trying another network provider because clearly vodacom will try and milk their customers for every single cent they have.
