Service suspended, no warning

I received an sms requesting that I change my banking details as my CR card was going to expire. I was told by the call center that I should do so via the MTN Active site and if done in the next few days I would be fine. I did so as soon as I got off the line and received email confirmation of the change.

Yesterday 9/12/2013 my service was suspended... for what I can only guess is for non payment (I cannot get hold of anyone in call center... i give up after 30min each time as I cannot spend my day on hold...). I do not monitor my banking closely, so only after my service was suspended did I go and investigate myself to find that the DR order had not come off. Can MTN please explain why my banking details change was not affected and why they suspend services without so much as a warning? What if my life was in serious danger yesterday and I couldn't make a call. What is so difficult about sending out an sms as a warning so that the situation can be resolved before it becomes a problem. This really isn't rocket science MTN.
