Apparent unsuitability for iPhone 5s contract

I went into vodaworld today and waited about 30mins to see a consultant to sign up for a contract on an iPhone 5s 32gb. I called ahead to ensure all documentation required, I had come with. After filling out the application for a contract and being entered into the system, I was advised that I did not qualify for a contract that would allow me to choose an iPhone 5s. I have recently returned to South Africa after living abroad for 12 years where I had a Vodafone contract for 6 years. I was astounded to hear this information. I have credit cards, over draft facilities and apparel accounts that much exceed the cost of an iPhone 5s. I have never defaulted on a payment, so I feel that there is no valid reason for this. Fnb have offered me an iPhone 5s on their smartphone facility. The cost of which is not far from even the most basic iPhone 5s contract. I don't believe Vodacom had a valid reason to decline my application for an iPhone 5s contract.
