Dismal repair service

I took my iPhone 4, which is insured through Vodacom, to Vodacom Customer Care in Sandton to have its cracked screen replaced on Friday 15 November 2013. I asked the consultant how long it would take to do the job, and he said 24 hours. This was acceptable to me, I would not be without the phone for too much of the working week. When I phoned on Monday 18 November to enquire after the phone, I was told that actually the job could take 10 working days (!) The person I spoke to speculated that the original consultant I spoke to probably meant the insurance claim would take 24 hours to approve. This for a job that a friend had done in front of him in 5 minutes flat - not through Vodacom or their insurance. So I had to go out and buy a replacement handset. I received an SMS to say that the phone had arrived in the assessment department on Wednesday 20 November, and a call today, Friday 22 November to tell me that the phone was out of warranty so it would not be repaired, it would have to be replaced! Surely they could have worked that out when I took the phone in and not wasted a week of my time? Now it will take until Monday to get the replacement claim approved. Come on Vodacom!
