I thought I'd give Web Africa a try to see what their uncapped ADSL product offering was like. I know throttling is a problem with ISP's in South Africa so I speciflyy asked Web Africa upfront what the exact criteria are for throttling. The sales agent could not give me any intelligent advice regarding this and it appeared like a completely untransparent policy. Never the less, I decided to sign up and see.
I'm not a huge downloader but do a bit every now and then - I monitored my use and never was flagged out of the green "safe" area into the dangers of the red zone. Then suddenly I noticed this morning I was throttled down to nothing and was incapable of any web site browsing. I work from home so this was particularly annoying.
I received no warning and had not done any excessive downloading.
WEBAFRICA has very sinister policies in place. There is no transparency regarding the throttling and they think they can drop paying customers on a whim.
Well Webafrica, if you don't give me any notice then neither will I and will discontinue my service without any notice.
