I renewed my wife and my cell phone contracts. Upon renewal I asked that the ACCOUNT NAME be changed from the trust it is in to my personal name. I made it clear that the account number would remain the same and I said that if there is a cost involved, they must leave it as it is. The consultant however, witnessed by my wife and daughter, assured me that there will be no cost involved as a name change which is seen as an admin issue. Subsequently I received a bill from MTN with a NEW ACCOUNT NUMBER after having explicitly said the account number must remain the same & been assured by the consultant it would - R150 VAT per phone labelled as "customer swap charge". I was misled by the consultant who gave me the wrong information due to his incompetence and now I am liable for costs due to the non disclosure of these costs on his part which is totally unacceptable and unlawful in terms of the CPA Part F paragraph 41. "False, misleading & deceptive representations". Having signed paperwork where this was not made clear is void & if this is how MTN does business I would rather take mine elsewhere.
