I received a sms stating that I owe 8ta some R1550 (keep in mind that I never went to any 8ta Outlet for a cellphone contract).

What boggles my mind is the fact that I have registered with the SAFPS (South African Prevention Services) meaning that I, or rather, my ID will NOT be granted any credit whatsoever as it's been blocked on all Credit Bureaus. I called 8ta explained myself and still waiting for a reply. This is disheartening as such "Registered Credit Providers" have deals happening "under the table".
