New meaning to the word incompetence!

I prematurely cancelled my contract in April this year, paid the full amount due and faxed through the proof of payment and other necessary documents to their cancellations dept. Shortly thereafter I got a letter telling me about my acc that is in arreas, I responded promptly to the letter and got promised it would be dealt with as they can see the payment reflecting on their system, apparently they had accidentaly billed me twice for the same thing, I relaxed thinking that it's sorted. Since then I've received about 5 "reminders" of the very same acc, I call in and every person I speak to promises to sort it out and get back to me, which never happens. The last straw is last week receiving an sms from Vodacom stating that my acc has been handed over to their legal people and if I dont settle the amount I owe I will be blacklisted. I'm beyond awe! I mean how can such a huge company not be able to track a simple payment, allocate it to the correct acc and cancelling the contract in question? So what now- my name is going to bear a bad credit status because of Vodacom's fault and incompetency? Is'nt that just awesome!
