Billed 2 yrs later for SMS bundle charges

So after being a client of MTN for the last 15years I decided to end 1 of my contracts with them. I phoned MTN and they said that we have to wait until the contract expires etc. so we gave notice and waited 4 months for the contract to end.
When contract ended I received my last bill for number I ended, the bill was for over R2k.
I phoned in the next morning to query this as the phone and SIM card was locked up for the past few months not in use at all. 15.07.2013
The lady responded that she will log the call and that I will have to wait until after the 10.08.2013 for the query to be resolved. I heard nothing from MTN and decided to phone them this morning.
MTN response: the billing was for a SMS bundle that was never charged for 2years. My question was how is this possible to charge me 2years later for something that was never used and never even showed on any of my bills I received for 2 years. I got no answer? Only that we will escalate your query and that I will have to wait another month for this to maybe be resolved. In the mean time I need to pay as I can be ITC'd. I refuse to pay this bill as I payed every bill received for the duration of the contract. Not my mistake.
