On Thursday 8th August I went into the St Georges Mall branch of Autopage Cellular to upgrade my contract.
I upgraded to a Blackberry Q5. Over the weekend when charged the phone did not hold the charge for more than half the day despite the fact that I was not even using the phone as I have no data or airtime.
On returning to the store to get a replacement. I was informed that the phone will not be replace but needs to be sent to Johannesburg for repairs. This would take 10 days! I expressed my dissatisfaction with the arrangement and invoked my rights as a consumer to return the goods for my money or a replacement. It is ridiculous to expect me to be out of contact for 10 days.
The phone is brand new and not functioning the way it should, I don't want a repaired phone, I paid for a new phone. Surely it is not for me to wait while the issue is investigated before Autopage sees fit to replace the phone? As a consumer I have the right to a replacement right away, in store.
The agent at the call centre actually argued with me when I called to resolve the matter - what a disgrace to customer service. I will be cancelling my contract should this matter not be resolved.
