I had a phone contract with MTN which expired in May 2012, before and after I have been calling MTN to let them know that I am not interested in upgrading anymore. This went on until I decided to only send e-mails which I am having as evidence, everytime towards month end, MTN will switch off my number, knowing that I want to use it, I will go and pay and they open it, still I told them I donot want it anymore. All they did is to forward the query to another dept, until it reaches their legal dept. This went on until I decided I am not going to pay anymore, and have never used the number since then because it is logged/switched off. I also have a broadband contract with them, so I decided that I am not going to pay for something I did not or cannot use, so whenever I am paying for the broadband only, I am told I must first pay R800, 00. Today it is even R900, 00. I cannot pay for something I did not use. MTN is using the bullying tactics to force me into upgrading my contract. SO I have stopped paying for both. They always tell me the issue is now with their legal dept. They even went further to list me at the credit bureau and now it is messing up my life, Im consifdering ICASA now
